‘I’m so delighted for the girls’ – Everton boss Sørensen reacts to victory over Liverpool | OneFootball

Everton manager Brian Sørensen was delighted to see his side get their rewards as they defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Katja Snoeijs’ first half penalty was enough to separate the two sides in the latest Merseyside derby.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen was full of praise for his side after they picked up their first win of the season in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

“First and foremost, I’m so delighted for the girls because they really deserve it,” Sørensen said.

“It’s been challenging because we’ve had to change something every week. We haven’t been able to put the same line-up out two weeks in a row and I think it was the first week this week where we could actually have a bit of consistency in training and get our game plan right.”

Sørensen went on to explain that beating Liverpool means that little bit more to his Everton side.

He said “I always celebrate a bit more when we beat Liverpool because it just means that little bit more.

“I’m not looking at the table, I’m looking at the performances and I know we are going in the right direction despite having key players out.”

Everton’s previous two home league derbies ended in draws and Sørensen was pleased to finally send the fans home extra happy.

He said “We haven’t had our best performances here when we’ve played Liverpool; it’s been 1-1 or 0-0, so it was really good that we got this one over the line. It’s one we’ll look back on with joy.”

Sørensen offered praise to goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan who had an incredible game between the sticks before hailing the overall team effort.

He said “Courtney is world-class. It’s not just her, the whole team, they work so hard and the core is really strong. Of course, we need squad depth and all of that, but we did it, we found a way.”

Everton are back in action on Wednesday evening when they play host to Manchester United in the Women’s League Cup group stage.
