Chelsea have been handed a big boost ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday evening.

The Blues returned to winning ways against Wolves on Monday night with a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge to end a run of five games with a win.

The three points moved Enzo Maresca’s men back into the top four and two points ahead of City and Newcastle in the race for Champions League football.

Chelsea handed boost head ahead of City game

Chelsea were somewhat depleted against Wolves, especially in midfield with both Romeo Laiva and Enzo Fernandez missing the game, whilst Levi Colwill also missed out.

It meant a first league start for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, whilst no midfieder’s were named on the bench, with Chelsea currently struggling for depth in that area of the pitch.

The Blues have the option to recall Lesley Ugochukwu from Southampton, but seem reluctant to do that, and Maresca stated in his pre-match press conference the intention wasn’t to do that.

Fernandez was expected to miss a couple of weeks, whilst Maresca confirmed Lavia’s injury was the worse of the two.

Chelsea once again face the prospect of going into this game with Dewsbury-Hall and Moises Caicedo as their only fit midfielders.

However, they may have been handed a huge boost if the latest pictures from Cobham are anything to go by, with both Fernandez and Colwill seen taking part in training on Friday.

Whilst that doesn’t equate to the pair starting it strongly suggests they will at least be involved in some capacity against the Champions.

Having both available would be a huge plus, especially with Fernandez given the lack of options in midfield currently, whilst Colwill would likely partner Trevoh Chalobah, who was man of the match on his return against Wolves.

It’s a huge game for Chelsea and one that would see them drop out of the top four with a defeat, whilst they have only scored once on their last five visits to the Blue side of Manchester.
