INEOS have been working overtime on trying to reduce Manchester United’s bloated wage bill while also trying to steer clear of breaching any Profit and Sustainability rules.
Antony has already made his loan exit while both Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro also look primed to leave. The co-owners are also open to Christian Eriksen’s departure.
But selling an academy graduate would be of the greatest help in this window with regards to the club’s finances which is why Marcus Rashford leaving made the most sense after the Mancunian already made clear his desire to try a new adventure.
But owing to his poor form and humongous wages, not many permanent offers arrived and INEOS decided to put up both Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho for sale.
Both were deemed untouchable not too long ago, but the Argentine’s place in Ruben Amorim’s plans did not look like a natural fit which is why the winger was also reportedly open to leaving.
The Portuguese dropped him from the Manchester derby matchday squad citing off-field and on-field issues, demanding greater responsibility when not representing the club and more hard work on the pitch.
Ever since the, there has been plenty of interest from the likes of Napoli, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. But unlike Rashford, who just gave up, the Argentine has not stopped trying to win over the head coach.
So much so that he deleted his X account, and made an effort to try and play as a No 10 instead of a winger while also working extremely hard out of possession.
Even when not picked in the first team, the 20-year-old has not sulked and whenever he has come on, he has tried to make a positive impact and after the FCSB win, Amorim was full of praise for the Argentina international.
The 40-year-old tactician admitted that at the start it was not smooth sailing for either when it came to their relationship.
“I’m demanding in my way and sometimes it is hard to make the first impact. He changed right after that City game. He’s improving but it’s not from me — it’s the way he understands things. I just want to help him. He understands sometimes I am a different coach.”
As relayed by The Peoples Person, the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss is so impressed with the United No 17 that he has opposed INEOS’ plans of selling him in this window.
And now as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the pair’s relationship has improved greatly, so much so that the Carrington graduate does not look like he will be leaving Old Trafford any time soon.
“Alejandro Garnacho’s improved relationship with Ruben Amorim points to the Argentine attacker staying at Manchester United once the January transfer window closes, Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT.
“I think the public statements from Ruben Amorim are showing how the situation has changed in terms of relationship between the coach and Garnacho in the last 10-15 days. So I think there is still a possibility for him to continue at Manchester United.”
Napoli were the first to express an interest but after seeing numerous bids rejected, they have finally moved on to other targets. Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to persuade Garnacho to change his mind.
Chelsea seem like the only contenders who can snatch the versatile winger from United’s grasp but the co-owners have slapped a £80 million price tag on his head to dissuade domestic rivals.
Hopefully, Garnacho still remains at the Theatre of Dreams beyond February 3 and can continue to improve under Amorim as he looks to take the club back to the top.
