Ruben Amorim has reportedly identified one transfer target as the ‘perfect piece of the puzzle’ at Old Trafford. Luckily for him, he’s available for free next summer.
That’s not to say a deal won’t be incredibly difficult to materialise, though, as Alphonso Davies is attracting interest from a host of top European clubs ahead of his contract expiring next June – including reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid.
Recent reports from outlets would’ve had you believe that an agreement was already in place between the 24-year-old and Madrid. However, his team were quick to clarify that, as it stands, Davies’ future is completely undecided. Staying at Bayern Munich remains an option, while his previous coach Hansi Flick is thought to be spearheading Barcelona’s pursuit.

As for Manchester United’s interest, the Canadian international has been categorised as a ‘dream’ signing to occupy the left-wing back role in Amorim’s new setup. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, the club’s only senior left-backs, are both returning to full fitness after lengthy injury setbacks, but relying on both to stay fit for the course of a season is perhaps ill-advised.
Yesterday, AS revealed that the Red Devils were ‘bidding hard’ behind the scenes to poke their noses in front of the race for Davies. He’ll be able to open talks with foreign clubs as early as January, although if Bayern catch wind that he’s unwilling to sign new terms, they could look to offload him in the winter to ensure they recuperate at least something from his exit.
Losing such a ‘world-class’ star for nothing would come as a substantial blow to the club – not least because the Bavarian outfit would then have to start scouring the market and eventually fork out the funds for his successor.
