Rio Ferdinand has urged Ruben Amorim to put Rasmus Hojlund’s starting spot on the back burner for now – and replace him with a forward who boasts 130 career goals.

Indeed, the ex-Manchester United stalwart has been left unconvinced by the struggling Dane’s performances, which have seen him net only two Premier League goals in 18 appearances this term. In total, across his one-and-a-half campaigns in England’s top flight, he has failed to score in 36 out of 48 matches.

That’s not to say there isn’t a world-class player in there waiting to establish itself, though. While he may not be up to the standard required of him yet, Hojlund proved last season in the Champions League that he has the clinicality to get in the right positions and find the end product. It just needs to be on display week in, week out.

Alas, Ferdinand has urged INEOS chiefs to test Napoli’s resolve in a move for Victor Osimhen, who’s currently on loan with Galatasaray for the term. The Nigerian talisman has already notched 16 goals and five assists in just 20 appearances, carrying over his prolific form from Italy to Turkey seamlessly.

United have long been linked with Osimhen yet have never gone as far as to materialise their interest with a formal approach or bid. When Napoli first entered the race for Alejandro Garnacho, rumours of a potential swap deal quickly began to circulate, although nothing has since come to fruition.

Ferdinand said of the attacking duo, as per Manchester Evening News: “I’ve watched him [Hojlund] the last two games closely, and I’m like, it just doesn’t add up. I’d be going to get Osimhen now.

“If we could do it from a financial standpoint – get him on loan – I’d go and get Osimhen now. [He] guarantees you, somebody who can get on the end of things, scores goals. He’s experienced. Done it at the top level.”
