Over the weekend, it was confirmed that Spain would be without Isco Alarcon for Euro 2024, and they’ve now lost another piece of their puzzle for the tournament this summer: Jose Gaya.

Gaya has been working his way back from a hamstring injury in recent weeks, but heartbreak struck just 11 minutes after he came on for Valencia during their 3-1 defeat to Girona on Sunday, as he suffered a relapse of the same problem.

As per Relevo, Gaya’s chances of making the Euros is now incredibly slim. He would have been in Luis de la Fuente’s squad alongside fellow left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, but now he is set to miss a second major tournament in a row due to injury, having also been ruled out of the 2022 World Cup.

Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez is likely to be the best-placed player to replace Gaya in Spain’s squad, which will be announced by de la Fuente next Tuesday.
