Newcastle United missed the opportunity to go fourth in the Premier League after losing 2-1 to Fulham on Saturday at St James’ Park.
The Magpies made an impressive start to the home encounter and struck the opener in the 37th minute through Jacob Murphy.
But Raul Jimenez restored parity on the hour mark before substitute Rodrigo Muniz grabbed the winner with a fine finish, condemning Newcastle to their seventh defeat of the season.
Manager Eddie Howe has no time to dwell on that, as he prepares his team for the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Wednesday night.
However, the English boss has been handed a major worry ahead of the important clash, with Joelinton’s involvement doubtful against the Gunners.
The 28-year-old limped off after 64 minutes in the defeat to Fulham, with Joe Willock coming on to replace him.
Joelinton recently shared an image with his family that showed him wearing a brace on his right leg, sparking concern among the supporters (per the Mirror).
The midfielder has been one of the most important players for Howe this season. He has made 29 appearances in all competitions this term, with five goal contributions to his name.
Losing him for the Arsenal game would be a huge blow for Newcastle, who have a 2-0 advantage after the first-leg at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Callum Wilson is close to a return after being out for over eight weeks with a hamstring injury. He could be involved against the Gunners in Wednesday’s match.
