Corinthians is moving forward with its organizational overhaul, as President Augusto Melo unveils a new administrative structure designed to streamline the club’s off-field operations. The latest step in this process saw the appointment of Sérgio Murilo as Director of Institutional Relations, further professionalizing the club’s leadership.
Under the new system, the board now features designated directors for finance, marketing, and club administration—a shift aimed at dividing responsibilities more clearly and fostering accountability in key areas. This fresh approach parallels recent decisions in the transfer market where financial prudence has been at the fore. Corinthians, under Melo’s tenure, has steered away from big-money moves in favor of targeted, cost-effective signings and loans, often structuring contracts that reward tangible results. Notable among these has been the acquisition of Fabrizio Angileri, who quickly locked down the left-back slot, and the signing of Memphis Depay, whose performances have already activated appearance-based bonuses.
Departures have followed the same disciplined pattern, with higher-earning or seldom-used players exiting to provide room for new additions without inflating the wage bill. In all, the new board’s operational focus appears to be on promoting sustainability and ensuring that the football side of the club doesn’t outpace the realities faced on the business side—an approach the club’s leadership believes is necessary to secure long-term competitiveness.
On the pitch, these changes are mirrored by a more measured approach to squad building. Rather than revolutionary changes, Corinthians is looking for marginal gains, seeking out a left-footed centre-back and a quick winger to address specific tactical weaknesses evident over the campaign. Even top contributors like Memphis Depay have seen their role at the club carefully managed, with performance-related incentives serving as both motivation and fiscal guardrails.
The new board faces immediate challenges, notably steering the club back into the top spots after recent swings in form. With Vagner Love and other key figures calling for continued focus and cautioning against complacency, the on-field and off-field messages are aligned: Corinthians is casting its eye toward stability and progress rather than short-term fixes.
As Melo and his refreshed executive team settle into their roles, the expectation is that this new era of specialization and fiscal discipline will offer a foundation for the club’s ambitions, both in the boardroom and at the Neo Química Arena.
