It’s been a very slow January for Chelsea so far, much to the frustration of many of their fans, but things are set to warm up a bit in these final days of the month.
One person who is in desperate need of some action is Ben Chilwell. He’s by far the biggest name and the best paid player to have been outcast since Enzo Maresca’s arrival, and his 6 months with no serious action are damaging to him and to the club.
Both parties know that, and at last we see to have a serious suggestion raised. Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail have today written that the left back “could be saved” by “late interest from Crystal Palace”. It’s not clear if this would be a loan move or a permanent transfer, but the former option certainly seems more likely.
This Palace interest has been mentioned before, but now has a second source backing it up.
Chilwell’s fall from grace has been astonishing – from a vice captain and key player to total outcast. But with 18 month to go until World Cup 2026, there’s still a great chance for him to get his career back on track.

Chilwell’s huge wages have been the stumbling block preventing him from getting a move thus far, and whatever the solution with Palace it will likely require both Chelsea and Chilwell to make major compromises. But all three parties interests are aligned here, and that means that a deal is certainly possible, even with limited time left in the window.
As Gill writes, this is “one to watch” before Monday night’s deadline.
