Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi has reportedly agreed to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United next season.

Ten Hag’s position is under threat at Old Trafford following the club’s worst start to a season in the Premier League era. United are 12th in the Premier League table after eight games, having missed out on Champions League qualification last season.

Ten Hag insisted earlier this month that he has the backing of the board, though new co-owners Ineos held exploratory talks with potential replacements last summer. A decision was made to extend Ten Hag’s deal following those talks but change could arrive should results not improve.

Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate were named as options for the Red Devils but each have since ruled themselves out of the running.

Reports in Italy have now claimed Inzaghi is open to the role but that he will not leave Inter mid-season. InterLive have claimed that the 48-year-old has agreed terms on a Premier League move ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Italian has built a reputation as one of Europe’s best coaches at Inter, who he led to the Serie A title in 2023/24. He has also lifted three Coppa Italia trophies, one with Lazio and two with Inter, in addition to leading the latter to the 2023 Champions League final.

Inter had the best defensive record in Europe’s top five leagues last season and Inzaghi’s ability to construct a solid unit will appeal. Manchester United have a -2 goal difference after eight games this season and have suffered heavy home losses to Liverpool and Spurs.
