After missing out on Juan Cabal to Juventus, Inter are now reportedly turning towards Genoa defender Johan Vasquez, but face Premier League competition.

The deal was done with Hellas Verona to sign Cabal for €10m plus bonuses, but Juve suddenly swooped to snatch the Colombian out from under their noses.

They are still seeking a central defender who is left-footed, as Carlos Augusto filled in last season, but is now needed for a wider role instead after Tajon Buchanan’s injury.

According to TNT Sports Mexico, Inter and two Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on Vasquez of Genoa.

The Mexico international impressed at Genoa last season, having before that played on loan to Cremonese and Pumas.

He turns 26 in October and can play in central defence or on the left, so fits the characteristics that Inter are looking for.

On top of that, the Nerazzurri already did business with Genoa this summer with a €15m including bonuses deal for goalkeeper Josep Martinez, so already have a good rapport to build on.

The asking price is over €10m and that could cause problems, but under contract to June 2027, it is possible he could be allowed to move on loan with option to buy.
