Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team are “ending 2024 with a bang” after their Serie A win over Cagliari.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews. He also said that “the second star will unite us forever” and defended his captain Lautaro Martinez.

Inter got three big points in Serie A this evening away to Cagliari.

And Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez got on the scoresheet for the first time in almost two months in the league,

The Argentine had last scored in an Inter shirt against Venezia in November.

But Martinez finally broke his duck this evening. The 27-year-old latched onto a cross from his teammate Nicolo Barella to put away Inter’s second goal of the match.

Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi: “Ending 2024 With A Bang” Vs Cagliari

Inter coach Inzaghi said of the first half in Sardinia that “We started well, but we weren’t able to score.”

“In the second half, we pushed forward,” the coach continued. “We wanted this win, and ended a great 2024 with a bang.”

Inzaghi called it “the year of the second star, which will unite us forever, along with the fans.”

“Now we have to keep looking forward. Starting with the Supercoppa.”

“We’ve won it for the last three seasons,” Inzaghi noted of the Supercoppa Italiana. “But it will be a tough competition again.”

Of his team’s goals from set pieces against Cagliari, Inzaghi said that “My players have always put themselves fully at my disposal.”

“Then, I’m lucky to have coaching staff who give me a lot of help.”

“I’m fortunate to have some great set piece takers. Then, we had good movement, it’s definitely a factor and we have to keep working on that.”

“Organization gives you a lot in modern football,” Inzaghi said.

And Inzaghi downplayed the recent goal drought of Martinez. “He hasn’t always been playing,” the Inter coach noted.

“He’s been on the bench in the Champions League as well as the Coppa Italia.”

“He’d like to always play,” Inzaghi said of Martinez. “He’s our captain.”

“We’ve always told him to play calmly,” Inzaghi said of his captain. “Because he has a team that plays for him.”

“Lautaro will never be a problem for Inter,” he added. “Always a solution.”

And then, Inzaghi didn’t hide Inter’s Champions League ambitions. “We’re Inter,” he said. “We have goals, and it’s right to declare them.”

“January and February will be even tougher months,” he predicted. “Because we’ll always be playing, and we’ll always be giving everything.”
