Lazio have some company in the race for Udinese defender Oumar Solet who attracted the interest of Inter Milan.

The Background

The 25-year-old was released from his contract with RB Salzburg in September, and the Zebrette were the quickest to react, signing him on a free transfer. The Frenchman was registered in January, and he’s been an absolute pillar at the back for Kosta Runjaic’s team ever since.

Inter Milan & Lazio Want Oumar Solet

Many believe Solet is unlikely to linger in Friuli for too long, as Udinese could be tempted to cash in on his services and record pure capital gains. In recent weeks, the centre-back has been linked with a move to Lazio who will be looking to add fresh blood to their ageing defensive department. However, the Biancocelesti will reportedly face some competition from the Italian champions.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24), Inter have now decided to prioritise Solet over his Udinese teammate Jaka Bijol who was considered their primary target for quite some time now. Giuseppe Marotta and Co. may be looking to replace former Lazio veterans Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij who are both running on expiring contracts, hence the need for new defenders.

Bad News for Lazio

Therefore, this could be a blow for Lazio as they might struggle to compete with the Italian champions, who can arguably offer Solet a bigger salary, as well as the opportunity to play in the Champions League and compete for the highest honors, whereas the Aquile aren’t there quite yet.
