Former treble winner with Inter Milan Walter Samuel praised Lautaro Martinez after Argentina’s 1-0 win against Peru.
During his post-match interview via FCInterNews, Samuel admitted everyone was happy for the Nerazzurri captain as he continued his scintillating international form.
After only netting once in the opening ten 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Lautaro Martinez has rediscovered his scoring instincts.
Indeed, the 27-year-old opened the scoring in Argentina’s stomach-wrenching 2-1 defeat at Paraguay last weekend.
However, unfazed by his side’s slip-up in Asuncion, the Inter superstar returned to the scoresheet last night.
Ten minutes into the second half, Martinez latched on to Lionel Messi’s assist to inspire La Albiceleste to a narrow home win.
Martinez’s heroics helped the reigning world champions extend their lead over second-placed Uruguay to five points.
Despite his underwhelming scoring output in the opening ten qualifying rounds, Martinez remains vital to Lionel Scaloni’s team.
His formidable form at the 2024 Copa America guided Argentina to the title.
And after failing to live up to the billing in the early World Cup qualifiers, he’s seemingly back on the rails.
“We are very happy with him; he knows what we expect from him,” Samuel said in the aftermath.
“We value him not only for his goals but also for how he supports the team.
“He was one of the players who recovered the most balls.”
Buoyed by impressive form during the international break, Martinez will return to the Inter camp tomorrow.
Indeed, he’ll join his clubmates in preparations for the upcoming Serie A trip to Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
Inter will take on Hellas Verona on Saturday, seeking a win following a dismal 1-1 home draw against Napoli last time out.
Simone Inzaghi’s men can’t afford a slip-up against perennial bottom-half strugglers.
And there’s no doubt the Nerazzurri boss would appreciate Martinez’s resurgence.
