Inter Milan are considering the futures of seven players who are out of contract at the end of the current season.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that Yann Sommer is among the players likely to stay, while Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa will depart.
At the moment, all of Yann Sommer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Matteo Darmian, and Francesco Acerbi are under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.
However, Inter have an option to terminate their deals a season early. They can do so at the end of this June.
According to Tuttosport, there is little doubt that Inter will keep Sommer around.
And the same is true of Mkhitaryan and Darmian. The Nerazzurri will want the pair in the squad for the Club World Cup. And won’t mind having them available next season.
On the other hand, Acerbi’s recent injury history raises big doubts about the 36-year-old’s future.
Defender Stefan de Vrij’s situation is the reverse of the above quartet.
That Dutchman’s deal actually runs until the end of this June, and then expires.
However, Inter have the option to extend de Vrij’s contract.
The Nerazzurri certainly want to keep de Vrij around. They could do so by exercising their contractual option, but alternatively, are ready to simply offer him a new contract entirely.
Striker Marko Arnautovic is in a similar situation. The Austrian’s deal runs out at the end of June. But Inter have the option to extend it by a season.
However, the Nerazzurri are unlikely to take advantage of that option.
And then forward Joaquin Correa’s deal also expires at the end of June. There is very little question that the Argentine will be on his way when his contract runs out.
