Ipswich host Brentford in a Premier League showdown on Saturday, May 10th, at 3pm (UK time). The Tractor Boys have already confirmed that they will be playing football in the second-tier of English football next season, while Brentford are seeking an 8th place finish that may be enough to ensure some form of European football in 2025-26.
Ipswich have lost 12 Premier League home games this season, with their only victory coming against Chelsea in December. Meanwhile, Brentford have won their last three games and are now on an unbeaten five-game streak, as they have found momentum at just the right time to end the campaign well. Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo, and Kevin Schade are all in fine goalscoring form and could thrive against such a porus defence on Saturday.
Wissa has been a standout performer for Brentford throughout the season, and he’s finishing strongly, having netted five times in his last seven outings—including four goals in his most recent four matches.
A goal against Ipswich would extend his streak to five consecutive games and bring his season total to 19 across all competitions, as the DR Congo international continues to lead the line with authority and influence.
It was always going to be a struggle, but Ipswich were put out of their misery on matchday 34 when the ignominy of relegation from the Premier League became a reality. It took a 22-year journey to get back here, but the Tractor Boys will soon be playing Championship football once again. In reality, they weren’t ready for the big time, having won just four of their 34 matches and suffering 21 losses—something only fellow promoted sides, who have also been sent down, Leicester (24) and Southampton (27), experienced on more occasions. Brentford, meanwhile, are chasing a top-half finish, with the Bees only three points behind 10th-place Bournemouth, with both having five games remaining. It’s been a topsy-turvy campaign for the west London club, who returned to successful ways in their most recent outing, an entertaining 4-2 win over Brighton, after going on a three-game winless run (one loss and two draws).
We’ve seen Wesley Burns, Jaden Philogene-Bidace, and Chiedozie Ogbene play their final Premier League minutes for Ipswich, with all ruled out until next season. Leif Davis will also sit this game out after recently picking up a red card and a subsequent three-match suspension. Meanwhile, there is no return date for Arijanet Muric (shoulder) and Nathan Broadhead (thigh).
Fabio Carvalho will not be available for Brentford until next season. This game also comes too early for Joshua Dasilva, who is hoping to make it before the end of this campaign. Igor Thiago, though, could return here following a knee injury, while there is no return date for Aaron Hickey or Yunus Musah.
Brentford are unbeaten in their last four meetings with Ipswich (three wins and one draw). The Bees are seeking a third straight win over the Tractor Boys, something they have never managed before against this opposition.
