India Super League (ISL) side, Bengaluru FC on Wednesday confirmed the signing of the Spanish midfielder Javi Hernandez on a two-year deal as they look to build towards the upcoming ISL season.
Hernandez is widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in the league following his performances for Odisha FC last season, with the Spaniard having a standout campaign, as seen by the six goals and five assists in 19 appearances he registered last campaign.
The 33-year-old who came through the youth ranks of UD Salamanca before joining the Real Madrid Castilla has vast experience considering that he has played in a number of leagues around the world and the player himself is excited at the new challenge that awaits him.
“I am aware that over the last two seasons, the club has not been able to reach the levels it aims to. I am motivated to give my best in every training session and every match, to help this team achieve its targets and that is to be among the best in the country. I believe this club and its fans deserve that," he said.
“Javi is a player who we have seen over the last few years and is someone whose statistics speak for themselves. Creativity and keeping the ball are his strengths, add to that his experience, and I have no doubt he will be a role model both on and off the field. I am particularly excited to see him link up with the young talent we have in the squad and help them and the team grow,” Bengaluru FC club director, Parth Jindal said on the signing.
It has come as a surprise to many that Odisha let the player leave after his performances for them last season and their loss is Bengaluru's gain as they are getting a midfielder who is capable of changing the course of the game with his brilliance.
