Enzo Maresca has hinted Josh Acheampong could start his second Premier League game for the club against Bournemouth on Tuesday evening.

The Blues returned to winning ways against Morecambe on Saturday in the FA Cup but are currently on a four game winless streak in the league.

Chelsea still sit fourth but the advantage they had over fifth place has now been eroded with Newcastle closing the gap to one point as the race for the Champions League intensifies.

Maresca hints Acheampong could start against Bournemouth

Maresca’s men drew 1-1 in their last Premier League game against Crystal Palace, and having made changes against Morecambe the Italian will revert back to what he considers his strongest line-up.

Chelsea currently have defensive issues due to injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile and they are looking to sign a new centre back, with Marc Guehi said to be their main target.

Acheampong was handed his first Premier League start against the Eagles and impressed with Maresca saying he was Chelsea’s best player.

The teenager was left out against Morecambe suggesting he could retain his place for the visit of Bournemouth, although Maresca stopped short of confirming that.

“Just because Josh didn’t play against Morecambe doesn’t mean that he is going to play against Bournemouth,” Maresca said as cited on X.com.

“The reason why is because for the young players, I think they need the right time to play games, not always play. But it could also be that he could start. We will see.”
