Speaking in an interview with La Voix du Nord, Jonathan David (24) has evoked the possibility of remaining at Lille OSC beyond the end of his current deal, set to expire at the end of the season.

From 1st January 2025, David will be allowed to discuss a pre-contract agreement with another club. The Canadian international has been linked with a big-money move away from Lille in each of the past three summers, however, a transfer has never taken form. But with his contract up at the end of the season, he could ultimately leave on a free.

David unlikely to join Barcelona

It is a situation that Les Dogues are trying to avoid and, as a result, talks over an extension remain ongoing, as confirmed by David himself. “As the president (Olivier Létang) has said many times, there are talks. We are speaking but no decision has been made. We are still speaking […] the door is never closed. It’s 50/50,” said the Canada international.

Létang has already confirmed that David, like all of the other key players at LOSC, will be remaining at the club in January. Should the striker leave, it looks like he won’t be making a move to his dream club Barcelona. Mundo Deportivo understands that the La Liga side have not been sufficiently convinced to make a move for the Canadian.
