“It’s a Really Difficult League” – Arne Slot on Liverpool’s Premier League Title Push

Liverpool are on the cusp of a momentous achievement, with Arne Slot’s side needing just a single point at home against Tottenham Hotspur to secure their 20th top-flight title — one that would draw them level with Manchester United in the all-time honours list.
With a commanding 12-point lead over Arsenal and only five matches left, the mathematics are simple. Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace midweek has capped their potential at 79 points — a figure Liverpool could surpass even with a draw this Sunday. Slot’s Reds have been relentless, racking up 26 wins from 33 games and averaging 2.39 points per match.
It’s been an emphatic campaign, one defined not just by wins but by the manner in which they’ve been achieved.
Tottenham’s current form and fixture congestion could make things easier for Liverpool. The North London side sit 16th in the Premier League and are burdened with Europa League semi-final responsibilities. With rotation likely and motivation potentially split, Anfield could see a weakened Spurs XI.
It doesn’t help Ange Postecoglou’s side that Liverpool have already hit them for ten goals across league and cup competitions this season. Add to that Liverpool’s 15-match unbeaten streak against Spurs at home, and the odds shift further in the hosts’ favour.
Mohamed Salah will once again be central. The Egyptian has 15 career goals against Spurs and is three goal involvements away from breaking the Premier League’s single-season record. Sunday offers a fitting stage.

Amid the build-up, Slot has responded to whispers that this Premier League season has lacked quality — a critique often levelled when one side dominates so completely.
“Everyone can have your opinion, and where we live it’s a positive thing you can share it with everyone. As long as it comes from their own idea, that’s the nice thing,” he said.
“I can only tell you what I’ve experienced this season and can say it’s never been as exciting for a top-five finish.”

“In my opinion it’s a really difficult league, there’s not an easy game. But that tells you something about us.”
“But we’re not the only team to find it hard to win a game by two or three goals. Maybe Liverpool and City and Arsenals aren’t as good, or the other teams have got better.”
While the final whistle on Sunday may mark the clinching of silverware, it could also represent a broader shift under Slot. Any suggestion that Liverpool’s success is circumstantial rather than systemic underestimates the cohesion, intensity, and evolution Slot has instilled.
Yes, the competition may be inconsistent, but this Liverpool side have done more than ride that wave — they’ve defined the standard.
