Dino Toppmöller is full of excitement ahead of Eintracht’s opener in Braunschweig and senses a positive energy among his players.
… where his team stand: “We have a full squad to pick from. Everyone's fit and raring to go for the first match of the season. It's going to be an awesome game under the lights. They love their football in Braunschweig. We're looking forward to it.”
… Eintracht’s approach in Braunschweig: “The first cup games have shown that it's a special competition. It'll be tough at Braunschweig but we feel ready. It's about having the power to stand up to everything, and then our quality will shine through.”
… new signing Arthur Theate: “He won’t be part of the squad in Braunschweig yet. I’ve known him and been following him for some time. He’s a regular in the Belgian national team, likes to assume responsibility despite his young age of 24 and already has plenty of experience. He can make surging forward runs and will be good for us in terms of our mentality, build-up play, leadership and our play against the ball. He can play as a left centre-back, left full-back or a left-sided defender in a back three. We’re very pleased it all worked out.”
… the team’s character: “The lads already showed last season that they’re resilient and able to deal with setbacks. They never complained at the training camp either, despite the travelling, time differences, lots of intensive sessions and high temperatures. They put their foot down and managed to see everything through, which is what it’s all about.”
… Eintracht’s possible starting XI: “I already have a starting line-up in mind for the game in Braunschweig. Beyond that, we’ll have to see whether we’ll have a first-choice starting XI. We have a lot of players with quality and ambition. We have three competitions coming up. We need a large squad and we’re happy we have plenty of alternatives.”
… Hugo Ekitiké: “He’s a top player – everyone can see that. He has outstanding qualities and I want him to show them on the pitch and realise how good he is. We’re fully counting on him and want him to fire us to wins, but it’s also about pushing players and provoking something – which has been my intention recently. I know what makes him tick. We have great confidence in him.”
… Aurèle Amenda: “Aurèle Amenda still needs a bit more time. I had a good chat with him and he'll soon be an option for the centre of defence. For tomorrow the choice is between Tuta and Nnamdi Collins
