Yesterday evening, Paris Saint-Germain celebrated reaching what will be their second-ever UEFA Champions League final after they eliminated Arsenal 3-1 on aggregate.
Booking their place to meet Inter Milan in Munich at the end of the month was clearly a cause for celebration, but the PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, reminded the club and fans that the journey is not yet over.
The club president said in an interview with Le Parisien, “We have a very strong team: we fight together, we play together. The atmosphere was magnificent. But I want to say something very important: it’s not over, we still have a very important match to play. Of course, we will celebrate tonight, but we need to be focused for this final. Anything could happen.”
The semi-final stage has been a stumbling block for Les Parisiens in recent seasons, with the club being eliminated in the 2020/21 and the 2023/24 competitions at this stage. In fact, until last night, PSG had never been able to navigate a two-legged Champions League semi-final.
The only other time that PSG had reached the Champions League final in the 2019/20 season, the tournament featured a curtailed semi-final with only one leg due to the global Coronavirus pandemic.
