Paris Saint-Germain had plenty of scoring chances in their 1-0 first-leg loss to Liverpool on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes, but Alisson Becker stole the show, keeping the home side off the scoresheet.

The Ligue 1 club dominated the first half, outshooting Liverpool 12-1, but couldn’t capitalize. Luis Enrique’s squad thought they had broken through when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia curled a shot into the top-left corner, but VAR ruled him offside by the narrowest of margins.

Alisson made four saves in the first half and added five more after the break, frustrating PSG’s attack. Despite the relentless pressure, it was Liverpool that delivered the decisive blow.

In the 87th minute, Alisson launched a long ball to Darwin Nunez, who won a duel and set up substitute Harvey Elliott. The young midfielder stayed composed and slotted the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma, giving Liverpool the upper hand heading into the second leg.

On Wednesday, once the match ended CBS Sports’ Jamie Carragher stated what Liverpool did to PSG was theft in terms of secure a 1-0 match in which they struggled all 90 minutes outside of Alisson’s nine-save performance.

“That was one of the biggest robberies you’ll ever see in football,” Carragher said. “I can’t believe what I just watched. PSG were absolutely outstanding—brilliant. They battered Liverpool.

“The last time Liverpool won this competition, Alisson Becker made a crucial save against Napoli in the final group-stage match. If Napoli had scored, Liverpool could have been eliminated. That moment is always seen as a turning point.

“But tonight wasn’t just a save—it was arguably the greatest performance of Alisson’s career, at least in a Liverpool shirt. If Liverpool go on to win this competition—and they have a great chance, as they’re much better than they played tonight—this performance will be remembered for years to come.”

This loss is PSG’s first since last November when they fell to Bayern Munich. Luis Enrique and his team must pick themselves up and turn the tie around at Anfield.
