According to Kicker, former Huddersfield Town manager Jan Siewert will take charge of Mainz 05 on a caretaker basis and will be in the dugout for their fixture against Bayern Munich on Sunday.
Currently working as the head of Mainz’s youth academy, Siewert takes charge from Jan-Moritz Lichte until a replacement is found, likely to be former defender Bo Svensson.
On Monday, the Bundesliga side announced that former sporting director Christian Heidel will return to the club and will be on their board whilst they have also appointed former head coach Martin Schmidt, as their new sporting director after they parted ways with Rouven Schröder.
“We want to give the coach a new impetus, the goal is to go into the second week with a new head coach,” said Heidel. Per Sport Bild, Mainz are currently finalising the details to appoint FC Liefering head coach Svensson, who was at Mainz until 2019 where he worked as a scout following his playing career.
