Manchester City have announced the signing of Jill Roord from VfL Wolfsburg. The midfielder joins the Sky Blues on a three-year deal.
The Netherlands international has spent the last two years in the Frauen-Bundesliga after joining from Arsenal. She helped Wolfsburg reach the final of the Champions League last month, where they narrowly lost out 3-2 to Barcelona.
The deal with Man City will see Roord take on the No.20 shirt, previously worn by Lucy Bronze. The Dutch international will return to the Women’s Super League after two previous seasons with Arsenal between 2019 and 2021. Roord won the September WSL Player of the Month award back in 2020.
Speaking on the move, the 26-year-old said: “I’m very happy and it’s a very proud feeling for me to sign for Manchester City. I have always thought that this was a fantastic club with lots of quality, and I’m super excited to start here.
“I really like the way that they play, and I feel that it suits me perfectly. There’s a lot of quality in the team, and it’s a young side with plenty of potential which is very important to me. I’ve always thought that the Women’s Super League is very competitive, so playing in England again is like a dream — I feel like I have developed a lot as a player during my time in Germany.”
