Ivan Juric has publicly stated that him and Johannes Spors are on the same page about Southampton's long-term progress. Despite Danny Rohl being the club's priority managerial candidate, Spors might make a mistake by sticking with Juric for a longer duration.
Yesterday, Southampton fans must have taken a trip down their good old fond memory lane. Long-serving midfield anchor Steven Davis talked about the glorious St. Mary's days and also took a deep-dive into his Carabao Cup emotions.
Having witnessed relegation battles for the entirety of this season, only a slight reference to that fairytale Cup journey is enough to make every Saint nostalgic.
And what could be better than getting the chance to play another final and winning it this time? Though a distant dream, this idea can turn into a reality if the club takes a leaf out of their previous squad building masterclasses.
Further, the board's vision seems to be gradually aligning well as far as Johannes Spors' comments are concerned.
Knowing this, it doesn't take a strange guess to acknowledge that Danny Rohl should be the go to choice to oversee this Southampton team. Yet, his current counterpart's recent words might not impress the majority of the fanbase.
The reason being that Ivan Juric has dropped an indirect hint that he is still held in high regard by the club's decision making authorities.
Discussing his chemistry with Johannes Spors, Juric said to the Daily Echo: "It's the most important thing, I think, that we think about football in the same way."
First of all, Spors must have been monitoring the strengths and weaknesses of the entire squad for a couple of months now. Thus, reaching to a conclusion that Juric might be well suited to nurturing this youth dominated playing eleven instead of Rohl comes as a rather bizarre opinion.
Plus, the latter has adapted well to different leagues and challenges while the former has proven his mettle only in the Italian top flight. Keeping these factors in mind, bringing Rohl should be the eventual decision but the final recruiting power still lies in the hands of Southampton.
Let's hope they don't have to repent any missed Danny Rohl opportunity in the future.
