John Textor confirms the imminent appointment of Paulo Fonseca as Lyon head coach | OneFootball

Lyon owner and president John Textor has confirmed to AFP the imminent appointment of Paulo Fonseca as head coach. The Portuguese manager is expected to put pen to paper over a two-and-a-half-year deal as the new Les Gones boss, reports L’Equipe. Fonseca will replace Pierre Sage, whose dismissal has been made official this Tuesday despite an honorable half-season. Barring the embarrassing Coupe de France exit at the hands of amateur side Bourgoin-Jallieu, Lyon are fifth in both the Ligue 1 and Europa League standings.

Textor said that Fonseca will be Lyon’s next head coach, barring any unexpected setback. The American businessman added that the Portuguese manager still needed to iron out some details regarding his contract termination with AC Milan. The Serie A giants have dismissed Fonseca in late December. “He has a few things left to settle with his previous club, but that is advancing quickly and we hope to see him this week”, Textor said.

Fonseca could therefore still make his Lyon debut on Thursday with Les Gones hosting Ludogorets in the Europa League.
