Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is on the verge of completing a move to Flamengo, with several reports indicating the deal is all but sealed. The 34-year-old Italian international has agreed to terms with the Brazilian club and is anticipated to sign a three-year contract, joining on a free transfer. His contract with Arsenal is set to expire on June 30, 2025, but the departure appears to be a formality at this stage, as Jorginho has already posted his farewell to Arsenal supporters on social media.

Jorginho’s time in north London saw his role reduced in the 2024/2025 campaign, as he found limited starting opportunities under manager Mikel Arteta. Despite rumours that Arteta was interested in extending his stay, Jorginho has opted to pursue what has been described as a long-held ambition to play professionally in Brazil, the country of his birth. For Arsenal, Jorginho featured in six Champions League matches this season, starting three times and scoring one goal. He continued to demonstrate his strengths as a deep-lying playmaker, known for his passing range and tactical discipline.

The move to Flamengo fulfills a personal milestone for Jorginho and also aligns with the Rio de Janeiro club’s ambitions for the upcoming Club World Cup. Flamengo’s midfield is in need of the kind of experience and game management that Jorginho brings, especially as the team prepares for continental and international challenges.

Jorginho is expected to arrive in Brazil around June 5 or 6, following his wedding to fiancée Catherine Harding on June 2. Reports suggest he will be earning a salary in the region of R$3 million. As Flamengo look to bolster their squad, Jorginho’s arrival is seen as a strategic step to provide leadership and stability in the center of the park heading into an important phase of the season.
