Our aim is to make continuous progress - both on and off the pitch. We want to continue working on forming a team who are capable of winning trophies both domestically league and in Europe. We're looking forward to working together and to the new season, which we will tackle together with real drive."
FC Bayern Women technical director Francisco De Sá Fardilha: “We're delighted to have José Barcala as our new head coach, as he fits perfectly with the profile we've defined with the aim of continuing the development we started three years ago. José will bring in a modern training methodology that's very similar to the work of his predecessor Alexander Straus. He's a good communicator who has a lot of experience in developing top players and is passionate about working with young talents."
Head coach José Barcala: "I'm proud and honoured to become part of FC Bayern Munich. The club stands for top performance and great ambitions, which makes the task even more exciting. I'm really looking forward to this new chapter and can't wait to get started. We want to consolidate our position at the top of the women's Bundesliga in the future too and also keep developing so we get closer to winning the UEFA Women's Champions League. At the same time, I want to actively support the development of talent from our own youth set-up."
José Antonio Barcala, to give the Galician-born coach his full name, began his coaching career at his home club Deportivo La Coruña. After a spell with Brisbane Roar in Australia, he was brought in as an assistant coach by French first division club Bordeaux before moving to FC Aarau in Switzerland.
