Josh Brownhill's future at Burnley remains uncertain amid his expiring contract
Josh Brownhill has claimed that he will sit down and sort out his Burnley future at the end of the season.
The midfielder is out of contract in June, and could depart the Clarets for nothing unless an extension is agreed.
The club captain has been crucial to Scott Parker’s side this year, scoring more goals than any other player in the side as they’ve clinched automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
But Brownhill’s time at Turf Moor could yet come to an end, with uncertainty surrounding his future at the Lancashire outfit.
Speaking in a group interview, Ashley Barnes asked Brownhill about his future to which he claimed talks will be held after the season ends.
He clarified that his focus is on helping Burnley to win the Championship title in the meantime, and he is hopeful things will be sorted out soon.
“Obviously going into the summer now, we’ll see what we can sort out,” said Brownhill, via Sky Sports on YouTube.
“Got two games to win, and hopefully win the league.
“End of the season I think we’re going to sit down and go through it then and hopefully we can get things sorted.”
Burnley will face Millwall on 3 May in a 12.30pm kick-off, and can clinch the Championship title depending on Leeds United’s results elsewhere.
Brownhill has been a key figure for Burnley ever since his arrival from Bristol City in January 2020.
This year in particular has seen him become a prolific goal-scorer, finding the back of the net 16 times in the league from 41 appearances.
However, at 29, this next contract is a major one in his career as it could be his last opportunity to get a big deal elsewhere.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the midfielder, with Burnley preparing for life back in the Premier League.
Brownhill has enjoyed a really strong season, showcasing why other clubs might be interested in his services if he becomes a free agent with his regular goal scoring.
His previous best league return for Burnley was seven, so he has really taken a step up in this department under Parker.
And Parker will now be keen to ensure he stays given their lack of goals elsewhere in the squad, as well as the leadership qualities Brownhill has displayed this year.
The midfielder’s Premier League experience will also be crucial to keep in the dressing room, and the fact the club are back in the top flight might be enough to convince him to stay.
