Manchester United insider Henry Winter claims Ruben Amorim has been hiding the real reasons that promoted him to drop Marcus Rashford.

The England international hasn’t featured for the Red Devils since being omitted from the matchday squad against Man City in December, while the Portuguese manager has been constantly interrogated on the matter.

Amorim has finally delivered his bluntest answer in the aftermath of Sunday’s victory over Fulham, saying he’d rather field his 63-year-old goalkeeper’s coach instead of Rashfor or any other player who is showing a lack of effort in training.

The 39-year-old also insisted that Rashford hasn’t showcased any improvement on that front, so the reasons behind his omission still stand.

Nevertheless, British journalist Henry Winter suggests an alternative theory. He believes the Rashford is doing his bit in training, but Amorim considers the player inapt to his 3-4-2-1 tactical system, while the management would be happy to get rid of one of their highest earners (£315,000 per week).

“My understanding is that Marcus Rashford is training hard but the direction of travel for the last few months has been that Rashford, for tactical and financial reasons, needs to move on,” said Winter during his appearance on the Transfer Show via Sky Sports.

“Tactically, he doesn’t fit into the template that Ruben Amorim has in 3-4-2-1. Also for financial reasons, Rashford is on a lot of money and for Amorim to invest in the squad and for the type of players he wants to fit the 3-4-2-1, they need to move some players out.”

It should also be noted that Winter was the journalist who made the infamous interview with Rashford a few days following his initial squad expulsion. This chat included some controversial statements on the player’s behalf, as he revealed his desire to start a new career chapter.
