As Liverpool head into February, the fixture list reads like a gauntlet thrown down in the title race. David Lynch, speaking to Dave Davis for Anfield Index, didn’t mince words when he described the upcoming stretch as “a massive month.” With matches lined up against Everton, Wolves, Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Newcastle United, Liverpool face a sequence that could define their Premier League campaign under Arne Slot.
The scheduling has raised eyebrows, particularly with the rearrangement of the Aston Villa clash. Lynch pondered, “I’d be interested to know what amount of influence that Liverpool were able to have in terms of where the Aston Villa game has been rearranged to.” The timing and sequence of fixtures can often sway momentum, but as Lynch aptly notes, “You’ve got to get these games out the way eventually, so why not go through them all at once. Especially when you have a fully-fit squad at your disposal.”
This sequence of games presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Slot’s men will be tested, but they also have a chance to solidify their standing at the top. Lynch’s confidence in the squad is evident: “If they can avoid defeat for the rest of this month and get a good amount of wins, then you can come out of the month with one hand on the Premier League trophy.”
Arne Slot’s approach will be crucial. Lynch highlights, “Slot has to make full use of that squad and be smart with it, but he has the best squad in the league.” This depth will be essential, especially given the physical and mental toll of facing top-tier opposition in quick succession.

The home fixture against Wolves provides a breather in an otherwise relentless schedule. Lynch points out, “It’s helpful that you have a home game against Wolves in there to break things up a bit, which is a game Liverpool should control.” This game could serve as a strategic pivot point, allowing Slot to rotate players and maintain energy levels.
Despite the daunting nature of the fixtures, there is an underlying belief in Liverpool’s superiority. Lynch confidently asserts, “On paper, these are really tough games but Liverpool are by far the best team in all of these games.” This belief is not unfounded. Liverpool’s form, combined with Slot’s tactical acumen and the squad’s depth, positions them as favourites in each encounter.
Yet, football isn’t played on paper. The Merseyside derby against Everton will be charged with emotion, and facing Manchester City is always a test of nerve and skill. Newcastle and Aston Villa have shown they can upset top teams, and even Wolves, despite their struggles, can be unpredictable.

February’s outcome will hinge on more than just skill and tactics. Mental fortitude, squad management, and perhaps a bit of luck will all play roles. If Liverpool navigate this month successfully, the path to Premier League glory becomes significantly clearer.
In the words of David Lynch, “If they can avoid defeat for the rest of this month and get a good amount of wins, then you can come out of the month with one hand on the Premier League trophy.” Liverpool fans will be hoping that come March, that hand tightens its grip.
