Liverpool Summer Transfer Window: Who’s In, Who’s Out?

As Liverpool bask in the glow of their second Premier League title in five years – sealed emphatically with a 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur – the next chapter is already being quietly written behind the scenes at Kirkby. With Arne Slot preparing for his second pre-season in charge, transfer activity promises to be brisk, balanced, and significant.

Lewis Steele of The Daily Mail offers a compelling breakdown of what to expect in terms of ins and outs at Anfield this summer. With an emphasis on maintaining a streamlined squad, the message from Liverpool’s backroom staff is clear: for every arrival, one departure is expected – possibly more, if younger players are loaned out or moved on permanently.

Kelleher Leads Likely Departures

One of the most straightforward predictions this window is the departure of Caoimhin Kelleher. After a decade of service and a standout campaign deputising for Alisson, the Irish goalkeeper has made his ambitions clear.

“Caoimhin Kelleher has been vocal in his desire to be a No 1 keeper elsewhere so that exit is one to safely predict.”

Bournemouth are reportedly interested, while Chelsea rumours have been dismissed. It would be a bittersweet farewell for a player whose composure and quality have long suggested he’s ready for a bigger role.

Veteran Stalwarts and Fringe Players on the Move

Another emotional exit could be on the cards: Joe Gomez. Once hailed as the future of Liverpool’s defence, Gomez now finds himself behind Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konaté, and captain Virgil van Dijk.

“Joe Gomez is Liverpool’s longest-serving player but it feels like his Anfield tenure is over.”

Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas appears surplus to requirements, particularly with Andy Robertson’s recent resurgence. The left-back, a fan favourite for his tenacity and penalty heroics, could be another casualty of Slot’s streamlining.

Darwin Núñez, a player who has divided opinion despite flashes of brilliance, is attracting attention from Saudi Arabia – who are also reportedly tracking Diogo Jota. The latter seems a less certain departure, while Barcelona remain admirers of Luis Díaz. Steele writes:

“I would keep Diaz, personally.”

Elliott, Doak, and the Future of Liverpool’s Youth

Harvey Elliott’s injury-troubled season has cast doubt over his immediate future. While the club won’t push him out, a decent bid could force their hand. Brighton, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayer Leverkusen are all monitoring the situation.

Ben Doak, on the other hand, remains highly regarded by Liverpool staff despite strong Premier League interest. His pace and flair are assets the club are reluctant to part with.

The conveyor belt of talent continues, with Tyler Morton, Lewis Koumas, Owen Beck, Jayden Danns, and James McConnell all expected to attract loan offers. Sheffield United are among those eyeing Beck and Koumas, and Morton’s stock remains high.

Delicate Balancing Act Ahead for Slot

For Slot, the challenge lies in crafting a squad that combines proven quality with youthful potential, without bloating the group. As Steele astutely notes:

“The coaching staff want to work with a similar number in their first-team group again so I would say for every incoming, there will be one outgoing, plus maybe some younger stars exiting.”

Liverpool’s squad depth was pivotal in their 2024/25 title triumph, but not every fringe player will have a future under the new regime.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

There’s no question this summer marks the most pivotal window in recent Liverpool history.

Kelleher deserves his move – no one begrudges him a shot at first-team football – but seeing Joe Gomez potentially leave will be tough.

The idea of losing both Nunez and Jota feels risky. Jota is arguably Liverpool’s most clinical finisher when fit, while Núñez – despite his erratic form – has that unpredictable spark which makes defences uneasy. If Saudi money tempts both away, serious replacements will be needed.

Holding onto Luis Díaz should be non-negotiable. He’s a winger made for Anfield – aggressive, direct, and tireless. If Barcelona come calling, Liverpool must resist.

Harvey Elliott’s future is more complex. Still young, still talented, but injuries have stalled his momentum. A loan might be wiser than a sale. And Ben Doak? Unless the offer is ridiculous, he stays. Simple as that.
