Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had one final 30-word message for departed striker Julian Alvarez last summer, the Argentine forward has revealed.
The Argentina international, who won everything available to him bar the Carabao Cup during a two-year stay at the Etihad Stadium, brought an end to an illustrious period with Manchester City in a €90 million exit last summer.
Having felt a desire to try and secure more consistent minutes as a leading striker within one of Europe’s premier clubs, Julian Alvarez ultimately opted to agree to a proposal from Atletico Madrid, despite interest from across the continent.
Since then, the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength and arguably been one of La Liga’s hottest goal-scorers this season, showcasing exactly what the struggling City side of present have been missing since his departure.
But there is certainly no bad feeling between the two parties, as highlighted by Julian Alvarez’s latest comments surrounding the parting words he was left with by the Manchester City head coach last summer.
Speaking during a recent interview with online Argentine newspaper InfoBae, Alvarez was keen to reveal the heartwarming 30-word message that City manager Pep Guardiola said to him before he left for the La Liga club.
“The last conversations with Pep, he told me, ‘Thank you very much for everything you gave the Club, a lot of titles. You never caused problems, never brought any trouble to the club. Nothing. You always gave your best’,” the striker revealed.
He continued, “Not a single complaint. It was always words of gratitude, and mine as well towards the club.”
Having not opted to replace Alvarez directly in the same market that he left, Manchester City moved swiftly during the winter transfer window to invest in the €75 million arrival of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.
The Egyptian international is viewed as a direct replacement for Alvarez, and holds a versatility in attacking areas that has been missing from Pep Guardiola’s squad for the most-part of the ongoing season.
Marmoush is likely to play an integral role in the final weeks and months of Manchester City’s campaign with the priority being to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League with a top-four Premier League finish, and potentially claim the FA Cup trophy, too.
