Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is poised to return to the city which he called home for almost a decade in May.
Klopp stepped down from the helm at Liverpool last summer after the best part of nine years at Anfield. The legendary German coach took the shock decision to walk away from the club one year before his contract expired because he was "running out of energy".
After four months away from the spotlight, Klopp was unveiled as the global sports director of Red Bull's wide-ranging fleet of clubs - much to the disdain of the manager's various former clubs.
Despite keeping his distance from Merseyside this season, watching on from afar as Arne Slot leads Liverpool to the Premier League summit, Klopp still has several ties to the city. The 57-year-old is an honorary ambassador of the LFC Foundation and is set to appear as the guest speaker for a gala dinner at Liverpool Cathedral on Friday, 23 May, according to The Athletic.

The report also claims that Klopp has been invited to Anfield for Liverpool's final Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace two days after the dinner.
Earlier this year, Klopp revealed that he was planning to return to Liverpool for the conclusion of the Premier League campaign to join the expected title celebrations. It remains to be seen whether Klopp will accept the invitation, but he did hint at returning once everything had been sealed.
"I think I will be there for the last game," Klopp has previously said. "I didn't want to go earlier to be honest because I didn't want to jinx it all the time. If I'm in the stadium for the first time and they lose, 'oh f**k sake'. So I go there when it's decided."
Liverpool can mathematically seal the title as early as Sunday 20 April if they win their next two matches while Arsenal lose to both Brentford and Ipswich Town. If both clubs keep on winning, Liverpool can seal the title with a victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 4 May - one week before Arsenal travel to Anfield.
