Juventus are in contract with Newcastle United over signing Lloyd Kelly.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has reported on X that Juventus are trying to do a deal with Newcastle for Kelly in the final days of the January transfer window.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Juventus have been trying to sign Kevin Danso, but the Italian and European giants are unable to do a loan deal.
Juventus have now turned their attention to Kelly, who was described by Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe as a player who has “a lot of potential” on the club’s official website when the Magpies signed him on a free transfer in June 2024.
If Juventus are keen on a deal for Kelly, then the Newcastle defender has to make the move to the Italian giants.
The 26-year-old, who can play as a centre-back or as a left-back, is not a regular in Howe’s starting line-up.
The former England Under-21 international, who has also been linked with Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Marseille and Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, is a peripheral figure in the Newcastle squad.
Kelly has made only 14 appearances for the Magpies so far this season. Only four of them have been starts in the Premier League.
The defender is not going to become a regular in the starting line-up at Newcastle.
It is not going to be easy for Kelly to establish himself in the Juventus starting line-up either, but if the Bianconeri are keen on him, then he could at least get chances to impress head coach Thiago Motta.
Juventus are fifth in the Serie A table at the moment with 37 points from 22 matches, two points behind fourth-placed Lazio.
Meanwhile, Newcastle currently find themselves fifth in the Premier League table with 41 points from 24 matches, level on points with fourth-placed and defending champions Manchester City, who have played 23 games.
