Juventus to Seriously Consider Pioli if They Fire Motta

Juventus are contemplating making a run at Stefano Pioli should they axe Thiago Motta after just one season. Qualifying for the Champions League might not suffice to save the coach’s job following the double abrupt elimination from the cups.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bianconeri would have a three-man shortlist should they go in that direction: Antonio Conte, if he somehow left Napoli, Gian Piero Gasperini, who has alluded to his Atalanta farewell, and the former Milan boss.

Pioli can get out of his Al-Nassr contract through a clause if Juventus or another top team calls him. The Saudi side wishes to keep him. However, his spell hasn’t been superb so far. They are fourth in the standings, ten points behind league toppers Al-Ittihad. He took the offer because it was very rich, but he misses Italy. He would push to come back if there was the right opportunity.

The Bianconeri would rather go with somebody familiar with the environment next. The former Rossoneri gaffer played for them in the ’80s. Plus, he has already won the Scudetto. Instead, Gasperini spent a long time as a coach in their youth academy.

Our Take on Juventus and Pioli

It was probably time for Milan to move on, but their season has only boosted his reputation. If the Old Lady pulls the plug, they’ll have to hire somebody who has already helmed a big team, preferably a proven winner. Rolling the dice with another up-and-comer wouldn’t make much sense and would only set them back a year after things didn’t go too well with arguably the best one available.
