Rangers have given ample time to Philippe Clement and have backed their manager fully during crisis, but his future at Ibrox is under doubt.
The Gers were knocked out of the Scottish Cup in an embarrassing manner after they lost 1-0 against Queens’ Park on Sunday.
James Tavernier missed a penalty after his stoppage-time spot-kick was expertly saved by Callum Ferrie.
While Clement is not the type of manager who wants to back down, Rangers board now needs to make a big call as clearly the results haven’t improved under him.
According to Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson, the Rangers CEO must understand that continuing with the Frenchman without getting any results is simply not an option anymore.
He wrote: “If he does survive then it will be because he’s operating under a Rangers board which is itself not fit for purpose.
“Patrick Stewart might have hoped to avoid pulling the trigger but the CEO must realise now that continuing to do nothing is no longer an option.”
The Bears backed their manager fully and the club wanted him to continue until the end of the season. But the shocking defeat at Ibrox could change everything.
Despite the fact, they dominated the game, it is the end result that matters.
Rangers are out of the Scottish Premiership title race, and they are out of two domestic cup competitions as well.
While they still have Europa League to look forward to, it will take a miraculous effort for them to reach the final of the competition.
In theory, this should be the end of the road for him, but the big question remains does Rangers board have the courage to sack him. And most importantly, do they have money to find a suitable replacement quickly?
