The Reds announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
Lundgaard sustained the injury during Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over West Ham United at Prenton Park at the weekend. The player had to be replaced by Missy Bo Kearns in the 39th minute of the match. Lundgaard’s injury has now been fully-assessed by the Liverpool medical staff and it has been determined that she has sustained medial ligament damage.
Commenting on the player’s injury, Liverpool Women’s club doctor, Dr Amelia Woodhouse, said “Sofie sustained a knee injury during Sunday’s game which was confirmed to be ligament damage following a scan.
“She will now begin a period of rehabilitation at the club and will miss the final games of the season.”
Lundgaard is in her second season at Liverpool after joining the Merseyside club from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring in January 2023. The midfielder has made 11 appearances for The Reds in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. Lundgaard’s injury is hugely frustrating given the fact that the player has started all of Liverpool’s matches this month. She had struggled for regular starts earlier in the campaign.
