Konrad Laimer has made a starting place in Bayern Munich’s midfield his own in recent months alongside Leon Goretzka with Joshua Kimmich switching to right-back. But while Laimer downplayed his performance, Kimmich held his teammate in high regard post-match. Assessing the Austrian’s performance, Kimmich said: “An outstanding game, not just against the ball. He also made very good decisions with the ball and found good passes between the lines. He’s played some good games for us, but I thought that was by far his best.”

This was echoed by sporting director Max Eberl, who added: “I thought he did very well against Ødegaard and Arsenal in the first and second leg. I’ve known Konny for a long time, he has outstanding qualities in terms of his venom in tackles and willingness to run. It’s unbelievably disgusting to play against him, he’s becoming more and more confident with the ball.”

All to play for in the return fixture
