Kwame Poku is seemingly now set to sign for Birmingham City this summer and we look at two more players who could follow him.

As exclusively revealed earlier this week by Football League World, Kwame Poku is set to be offered a £30,000 per week contract by Birmingham City for his services as the Blues look to challenge for promotion in the Championship next season.

The Peterborough United winger is out of contract in the summer, having missed a fair chunk of this season due to a hamstring injury but still managing to contribute 12 goals and eight assists in just 26 appearances for a Posh side that have underperformed this season.

Birmingham have romped to the League One title after spending heavily last summer and now the second city club are looking to splash the cash once again as they seek a return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2011.

As well as Poku, Chris Davies’ side have been linked with several other players already as we head towards the end of the campaign so we’ve looked at two realistic signings that the Blues could make to add to the now probable arrival of Poku at St Andrew’s.

Jamie Vardy

It has been confirmed by Leicester City their legendary striker Jamie Vardy will depart the Foxes at the end of this season as they get set for a return to Championship football following their Premier League relegation.

It hasn’t yet been suggested as to where the former England international striker sees his future but there has been no retirement announcement so he may well be carrying on and, if so, a local club in Birmingham City may well be able to poach the poacher.

One of Birmingham’s earliest pieces of business last summer was to bring in an experienced guaranteed goal scorer for League One level in Alfie May from Charlton Athletic and Vardy would represent the same but at a higher level in the second-tier.

With Lukas Jutkiewicz’ contract up at the end of the season and questions as to whether May can make the step up to the Championship, Birmingham will once again be on the look out for a striker to support club-record signing Jay Stansfield as well as the likes of Keshi Anderson and Lyndon Dykes.

Vardy notched 18 goals in 35 Championship games a couple of seasons ago as he captained Enzo Maresca’s Foxes to the title and another ambitious project and potential promotion may well be tempting for the 38-year-old Sheffield-born attacker.

Harry Darling

For a team so dominant in League One, it could well be argued that they are little bit uncertain as to what they want their defence to look like at a higher level with key defender Ben Davies only on loan from Rangers and the likes of Grant Hanley and Krystian Bielik not necessarily enough to partner Christoph Klarer in an intended Premier League promotion challenge.

One player that they have already been linked with is Swansea City centre-back Harry Darling, who is currently out of contract with the Swans this summer and could be yet another free transfer for an ambitious Birmingham side to pursue.

Having been coached by Russell Martin at both Milton Keynes Dons and then taken with him to Swansea, Darling is the embodiment of the type of centre-back that Davies will want to have in the second-tier next season.

The 25-year-old Cambridge-born Cambridge United academy graduate also offers a presence in the final third from set-pieces with five goals for the south Wales outfit this season alone.
