The LA Galaxy have re-signed goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann on a new one-year contract.

Klinsmann initially had his option for 2022 declined, but has returned to the Galaxy for a fourth year running on a deal through the 2023 MLS season with an option on 2024.

“Jonathan continues to grow in his development to be a high-level goalkeeper," Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney said in a club press release.

“We are pleased to have him back and competing every day to make himself and his teammates better. We look forward to the impact he can have in the team this coming season.”

Klinsmann - the son of legendary German forward and ex-USMNT head coach Jurgen - has played 11 times for the Galaxy across all competitions so far, keeping three clean sheets.

Prior to his arrival in LA in 2020, the 25-year-old enjoyed spells in Germany with Hertha Berlin (2017-19) and Switzerland with FC St. Gallen (2019-20).

Klinsmann, born in Munich, is capped 32 times for the United States across various youth levels and won the Golden Glove award as he helped the Stars and Stripes win the 2017 Concacaf Under-20 Championship.

This is the Galaxy's second move at the goalkeeper position this week after the club signed first-choice option Jonathan Bond to a new long-term contract.
