Lazio are reportedly pondering a move for Reda Belahyane which would reunite him with his old Hellas Verona manager Marco Baroni.

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, the Biancocelesti could decide to add one more midfielder to their ranks in January. Nicolo Rovella and Matteo Guendouzi have been the main starters in Baroni’s 4-2-3-1 formation, with Matias Vecino as the main backup, in addition to Gaetano Castrovilli, albeit many still argue that the latter isn’t fully suited to the deeper role.

In recent days, Napoli’s Michael Folorunsho has re-emerged as a possible transfer target. Nevertheless, the source believes that the Italian capital side is seeking a midfielder with different characteristics. While the 26-year-old mainly operates as an attacking midfielder or a box-to-box player, the report tips Lazio to pursue a midfielder capable of playing in front of the backline.

Lazio Keeping Tabs on Belahyane

Hence, Belahyane has emerged as a potential candidate for the role. The 20-year-old is a youth product of OGC Nice who joined Verona during last January’s major overhaul. Although he wasn’t a regular starter during Baroni’s time at the club, the source insists the two had a strong bond. The player himself credited the Lazio boss for helping him assimilate into Italian football.

The source adds that the French-Moroccan youngster has the required attributes to succeed at Lazio, including pace and good vision. Verona signed him for €500,000 just under a year ago, but they could be set to make a large windfall as the midfielder is currently valued at €7-8 million.
