Lazio have reportedly set their sights on RC Strasbourg centre-back Abakar Sylla, as they look to secure a defensive coup before the end of the January transfer session.
The Biancocelesti have identified the middle of the park as their priority for the winter market. However, the club could also make an addition to the backline, even though Patric’s latest positive tests have given the management some breathing room.
According to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Lazio are interested in poaching Sylla on loan. The 22-year-old is an Ivorian defender who started his career in his home country before being poached by Club Brugge for just €200,000 in 2021. This turned out to be quite a coup from the Belgian giants who sold the player to Strasbourg for €20 million a couple of years later.
Sylla has managed to make a name for himself with the Ligue 1 side. But after cementing himself as a regular start at the beginning of the season, he has now been relegated to the bench under the orders of his manager Liam Rosenior who has been favoring the defensive partnership of 19-year-old Mamadou Sarr, and 21-year-old Ismael Doukoure (another name on Lazio’s shortlist).
It remains to be seen if the French side would be open to loaning out Sylla. While the Ivory Coast international has been starving for playing time in France, picking up minutes at the Stadio Olimpico won’t be easy amidst competition from more experienced profiles like Alessio Romagnoli, Mario Gila and Samuel Gigot.
