Aaron James could depart the Racecourse on loan this winter.

Wrexham defender Aaron James is of interest to League Two club Morecambe, alongside the National League duo of Oldham Athletic and Forest Green Rovers.

This is according to Pete O'Rourke, who has detailed the trio's interest in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

A Cheshire-born centre-back, the 19-year-old made his debut for the Red Dragons back in 2023 in an FA Trophy match against Altrincham.

Since then, he has struggled for regular opportunities but made his EFL debut last term as he played 64 minutes at right-back in a 3-2 win over Salford City.

With the final days of the transfer window approaching, the youth team captain may seize the opportunity to depart in search of regular first-team football and further his development.

As detailed in the aforementioned post, Wrexham centre-back James is a target for the Shrimpers alongside Forest Green and Oldham.

Morecambe currently lie at the bottom of the League Two table and have picked up just 20 points from their opening 27 games of the campaign. This is in stark contrast to the Rovers and the Latics, with the pair flying high in the fifth tier of English football, sitting in second and fifth place respectively.

James would be a decent addition to any of these teams and O'Rourke believes that Phil Parkinson is eager for the defender to search for a loan move away.

Given the competition from Thomas O'Connor, Dan Scarr, and Max Cleworth for a spot in the starting lineup, it seems he would be better off exploring a move elsewhere to secure regular first-team action.

Having featured heavily in Wrexham's EFL Trophy games, James has had the opportunity to catch the eye of Parkinson and it is evident that he has managed to do that.

Speaking about the defender after a game against Port Vale, Parkinson said: “He is an under-the-radar player. We tried to get him a loan move in the summer but we didn’t quite manage to achieve that for him.

“I just hope there were people watching him against Port Vale because he has got incredible pace and athleticism, and he does what it says on the tin.

“He defends with the heart of a lion and we trust him playing in our first-team. But I am sure someone in January is going to look at these games he has played for us and give him a chance somewhere.”

In all likelihood, the chance to source him a loan move should arise in the coming days and James could return to the Racecourse Ground next season in contention for a starting spot, depending on what division the North Wales outfit are in.
