Leeds United could make a late move to sign Southampton striker Adam Armstrong on Monday’s deadline day, according to Craig Hope.

The Daily Mail journalist claimed that the Whites have a strong interest in the 27-year-old striker, who could leave the club today.

Leeds could face strong competition from Middlesbrough.

If the Whites are serious about signing Armstrong, they will have to quickly. It is unclear from Hope’s report whether Leeds or Boro are trying to get him on loan or on a permanent deal.

Sunderland were also thought to be interested in signing the former Newcastle United player, but they are signing Jayden Danns from Liverpool on loan instead.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke stated last month that he will only look to sign if he feels the player can improve the squad.

The Whites are leading the Championship table with 61 points, and they haven’t lost since the 1-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers on 30 November.

Signing a new striker would definitely help them, especially since Patrick Bamford is not contributing much at the moment. The 31-year-old striker has only made 10 appearances from the bench this season and has yet to score or provide an assist.

Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph have done a brilliant job for the Whites, but another quality striker in the side would have given them an edge in the promotion race.

Armstrong has a wealth of experience, having played for clubs like Newcastle, Blackburn Rovers and Southampton.

He scored 60 goals in 164 games for Rovers while playing in the Championship. For Southampton, he has managed 32 goals in 142 games.

Armstrong is a proven Championship goalscorer. Last season, he scored 24 goals for the Saints. This season, it has been a different story.

He has managed two goals and two assists in 20 appearances in the Premier League, and he is open to leaving the club. He could be a smart addition for Leeds, but the Whites need to act now with time running out.
