Patrick Bamford has fallen down the pecking order at Leeds United under Daniel Farke
Leeds United are reportedly open to offers for Patrick Bamford in January.
The forward has yet to start a league fixture for the Whites so far this season, featuring seven times from the bench.
The 31-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Daniel Farke, with injuries also hampering his game time.
Bamford’s contract at Elland Road runs until the summer of 2026.
Graeme Bailey has claimed that Leeds would be open to offers for Bamford in the January window, even though they are still happy to have him in the squad.
However, he believes that the striker’s significant wages could prove a stumbling block in any potential deal in the new year.
“Bamford’s on huge wages,” said Bailey, via Leeds United News.
“He’s very, very hard to leave.
“They like him as a player.
“I think they would listen to offers for him, so let’s see how that transpires.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if someone lower down, but he’s a hard sell as well.
“His fitness record hasn’t been great over the last 12 months in particular.
“I don’t think they’d stand in his way, but he’s on big money, he’s one of the higher earners at Leeds.
“He’s hard to move on. I don’t think he’s desperate to move either.
“It would be tough to move him out.”
While Bamford has struggled for game time this season, he has been a key figure at the club for the last several years.
The Englishman bagged 16 goals as the team gained promotion back to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa in 2020.
Across three seasons in the top flight, he contributed 23 goals and 11 assists.
But a difficult few seasons have seen injuries prevent him from playing a greater role in the side, playing just 33 times in the Championship last year.
The combination of high wages and a poor injury record means it will be difficult for Leeds to offload Bamford in January.
The forward hasn’t been able to contribute to the team this year, which will only further hurt their chances of a sale.
It’s been frustrating for everyone that he hasn’t been able to maintain a full bill of health consistently enough in the last few years, especially given how much of a difference-maker he can be at his best.
Perhaps a change in scenery is what he needs to rediscover that best, but it’s hard to see that happening in the new year for the time being.
