Leicester City are set to sell some of their key assets this summer following relegation, as they battle against potential PSR breaches, and first-choice goalkeeper Mads Hermansen looks likely to leave with both Chelsea and Brentford mooted as possible destinations for his services.

The Foxes' immediate relegation back to the Championship was confirmed last month with five league games to spare, and a summer of change beckons for the East Midlands outfit with Ruud van Nistelrooy's future at the helm looking uncertain and ex-Southampton boss Russell Martin mooted to take over soon.

Danish shot-stopper Hermansen, who joined for £6 million from boyhood side Brondby in 2023, has established himself as Leicester's number one over the last two seasons, and he impressed in-between the sticks despite their struggles in the last campaign.

His decent performances and potential to improve even further at 24-years-old have seemingly alerted numerous top-flight clubs to his potential availability this summer, and it looks as if an exit is likely before the Foxes officially return to the second-tier.

Hermansen's debut season at the King Power Stadium saw him instantly installed as the Foxes' first-choice keeper by Enzo Maresca, and he played a key role in their promotion as champions of the Championship, with 41 goals conceded and 13 clean sheets in 44 league appearances.

He remained as Steve Cooper's number one at the start of the last campaign, but was unable to help Leicester avoid a dismal term that saw them relegated back to the second-tier with just 25 points. The Danish youth international was one of their standout performers, however, despite ending the season with just the one clean sheet and 58 goals conceded from 27 Premier League outings.

Hermansen is attracting transfer interest from a whole host of clubs ahead of the summer window, with The Sun reporting that Brentford are plotting a £25m move for his services, while they have also claimed that Chelsea boss Maresca is keen on a reunion with his former Foxes man at Stamford Bridge. Manchester United have reportedly watched him too, with Andre Onana potentially set to depart.

FLW's Leicester fan pundit, Louchlainn Martin, has picked out the Danish shot-stopper's exit as the one thing that is a banker to happen at the King Power Stadium in the coming months. He believes that Hermansen is most likely to join either the Bees or the Blues, while a price-tag of upwards of £25m would be enough for the club to sanction a sale.

“The absolute banker in this transfer window for Leicester City is the sale of Mads Hermansen," Louchlainn told FLW.

“He is a cut above the Championship. No disrespect to the Championship, but he is far too good to be playing in the division.

“We’ve known, pretty much since we got promoted, that eventually someone was going to come knocking for Mads Hermansen.

“He’s currently being linked with Manchester United, with Brentford, Chelsea, of course, with the Enzo Maresca links.

“We signed him for around £6 million, and if a club comes in and pays £25, £30 million for him, of course that is a big profit for the club and the current PSR issues around us. I think the club will have no problem at all accepting that bid.

“He missed the last couple games of the season through surgery. He’s had surgery to try and resolve and ongoing issue, but I have absolutely no optimism at all that he will be a Leicester player in August come the start of the Championship.

“He is a nailed-on banker to probably go to Brentford or Chelsea. They would be the two that I would guess, obviously with the Danish links at Brentford and the Enzo Maresca link at Chelsea.”

Hermansen will be a loss for Leicester but his exit would help to balance the books

Hermansen has been one of the Foxes' best performers over the last nine months. He was a shining light throughout their troublesome return to the Premier League, despite his lack of experience in the English top-flight, or in any top European league.

He earned particular plaudits for his outstanding performance at Arsenal in September, as he made 13 saves and prevented 2.74 xG in the 90 minutes despite their 4-2 loss.

His standout showings and potential to improve even further at just 24-years-old has likely left many Foxes supporters feeling like his exit this summer is a foregone conclusion following their relegation, and the current interest in his services suggests that may well be the case.

Foxes boss van Nistelrooy recently spoke of his desire to keep the Danish keeper at the club beyond the campaign, stating that "the most important thing is to keep your best players," but his reportedly imminent exit will surely make Hermansen's departure even more likely, regardless of who their new head-coach potentially is.

As of now, though, he is still a Leicester player, and whether the interest from those aforementioned clubs turns into concrete transfer advances remains to be seen. Foxes fans will hope to keep him, but a big bid would likely see him depart with their best wishes.
