FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit has weighed in on the £110 million asking price to purchase the club

Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah has reportedly set a £110 million asking price to purchase the club.

According to Alan Nixon, the Saudi Arabian businessman is looking for over nine figures in order to relinquish his control over the Blades.

It has been reported that Steve Rosen is the latest person to step forward and consider a takeover of the Yorkshire outfit, but no deal has yet been agreed.

Prince Abdullah is looking to sell the club, although he may retain a stake in the Blades depending on what arrangement can be agreed with any prospective buyers.

It was originally hoped in August that a deal was close to being finalised, but that has not come to fruition, leaving things at Bramall Lane uncertain.

When asked about the £110 million asking price potentially putting off buyers, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy, of Blades Ramble, claimed that the team’s ongoing promotion push will help the prospective new owners in negotiations.

He believes a Premier League club is worth more than a Championship one, so the team’s top two spot at the moment could incentivise a deal being agreed before the end of the season.

“£110 million is a lot of money to me and you, but in all honesty, well firstly it’s a rumoured price, nobody really knows what Prince Abdullah is asking for the club, me included,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“I don’t know what would be a reasonable price.

“What I would say is the longer these negotiations go on into the season, the less of a risk it becomes for the potential buyer.

“So, we’re joint top of the league, we have the best record to start the season, we’ve accrued more points than anyone else but for the two-point deduction.

“There’s more of a certainty now than before the season started that we could get promoted.

“It’s still obviously not a done deal, but the longer it goes on the less of a risk it is to a potential buyer.

“I don’t know what the price is, but it’s obvious that purchasing a Premier League will cost you more than purchasing a Championship club.

“So, difficult to say really, but we’ve become a better prospect as a Championship club to purchase as the season goes on if our success is to continue.”

Sheffield United’s promotion ambitions

Sheffield United finished bottom of the Premier League table last season, but have their sights set on an immediate top flight return this campaign.

Chris Wilder’s side currently sit second in the table, level on points with leaders Sunderland.

The gap to third place Burnley is only one point after the opening nine league games, with everything still quite tight at the top of the standings so far.

Norwich City in seventh are only four points behind, meaning nobody inside the top six is safe in their position.

Next up for Sheffield United is a trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United on 18 October in an 8pm kick-off.

£110 million could be a good price for a promoted side

A fee of £110 million sounds like a lot at first glance, but Sheffield United are a club with a recent history of Premier League football, and could be back there again in 2025.

If they do gain promotion to the top flight, then that fee would be a reasonable one to pay for a team in the top division of English football.

Prince Abdullah has dragged on this sale process for quite some time now, so supporters will be hoping for some kind of resolution soon.
