Liga F round-up: Barcelona and Real Madrid ease to commanding wins on return to action | OneFootball

Barcelona and Real Madrid returned from the international break with dominant 4-1 victories in their respective Liga F meetings with Real Betis and Sevilla. Elsewhere, Atlético Madrid dropped two points in their away clash with Costa Adeje Tenerife.

Here, we will round up all the action that took place on match-day 12 of the Liga F season.

Granada 5-0 Deportivo La Coruña

Granada produced a free-scoring display to sweep past Dépor on Saturday. Laura Pérez opened the scoring in the 16th minute, before Isabel Álvarez found the net to give Granada a two-goal lead at the break. Cristina Postigo added a third in the opening stages of the second half, thumping a powerful strike in off the underside of the crossbar. Moments later, Ornella Vignola guided the ball in from close range to pile the misery on Dépor. The in-form Edna Imade then added her name to the scoresheet, netting in a third consecutive game to take her overall tally to eight goals in 12 league appearances this season.

Athletic Club 1-0 Levante Badalona

Athletic required just one goal to take maximum points from their home clash with Levante Badalona. The contest appeared to be heading towards a goalless draw until Daniela Agote found the breakthrough in the 81st minute. The substitute steered the ball home at the far post after a cross from the right flank was flicked into her path. The late strike sealed a precious win, leaving Athletic in fifth place and five points adrift of the top three. As a result of another strong defensive display, Athletic have now won three consecutive home games without conceding.

Real Madrid 4-1 Sevilla

Real Madrid produced a dominant first half display to claim a comfortable victory in their home meeting with Sevilla. Sheila García scored her first Real Madrid goal to get the hosts up and running in the 19th minute. Sandie Toletti added a second, before Linda Caicedo netted a stylish third goal. The Colombia international cut inside onto her favoured right foot, before drilling the ball past Esther Sullastres at the near post. Signe Bruun then punished Sullastres for a loose ball, sending a thunderous effort soaring into the top corner.

Alba López netted a second-half consolation for Sevilla, but it did little to dampen the mood around the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Barcelona 4-1 Real Betis

Like their rivals Madrid, Barcelona also scored four first-half goals in a 4-1 Liga F victory against a team from Seville. Esmee Brugts pounced on a parry to open the scoring in the 22nd minute. Caroline Graham Hansen then tapped the ball home from Ona Batlle’s low cross to the far post. The full-back put her own name on the scoresheet in the 35th minute, lifting the ball high into the Betis net after bringing down Aitana Bonmatí’s inch-perfect pass.

Two minutes later, Graham Hansen scored her second goal of the game, netting from close range to round off a scintillating first half performance. Fortunately for Betis, they managed to keep Barcelona at bay in the second half, before they grabbed a late consolation. Yasmine Zouhir fired past the outstretched Ellie Roebuck, who would have been disappointed to concede but overjoyed to be back on the pitch for the first time in almost a year. Roebuck and her Barcelona teammates celebrated a win that maintained their 100 percent record in Liga F this season.

Eibar 1-1 Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad had to settle for a share of the spoils in Sunday’s meeting with fellow Basque side Eibar. The hosts were awarded an early penalty after Manuela Vanegas was penalised for a foul on Ane Campos. Andrea Alvarez stepped up to squeeze her penalty under Elene Lete. Real Sociedad’s Amaiur Sarriegi restored parity on the stroke of half time, heading home after meeting a cross ahead of Eibar goalkeeper Eunate Astralaga. La Real were unable to push on from their equaliser, ensuring they had to be content with a point.

Costa Adeje Tenerife 2-2 Atlético Madrid

Rinsola Babajide scored the only goal in the first half of Sunday’s home clash with Atleti. The 26-year-old won possession back in the Atleti box, before she rolled the ball past Lola Gallardo at the near post. Sheila Guijarro pulled the visitors level in the 52nd minute, before Silvia Lloris completed the turnaround with just five minutes left to play of regulation time. However, there proved to be one final dramatic twist in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Substitute María Pérez collected the ball in the box, before she quickly turned to fire into the far corner. As a result, Atlético have now dropped points in four of their last five matches.

Madrid CFF 2-1 Levante

Hildur Antonsdóttir gave Madrid CFF a 38th-minute lead in their home meeting with Levante. The Iceland international headed the ball over Andrea Tarazona after meeting Allegra Poljak’s deep free-kick. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 79th minute when they took full advantage of a three-on-one situation.

They neatly worked the ball to Kamilla Melgård, who had the simple task of tapping into an empty net. Just moments later, Ivonne Chacón rose high in the box to head past Madrid goalkeeper Paola Ulloa. However, Levante were unable to push on for the all-important equaliser, as they fell to a second straight defeat. The visitors are just two points above the drop zone, while Madrid CFF are in 10th place with 16 points to their name.

Espanyol 1-0 Valencia

Levante’s city rivals Valencia remain stuck on two points after they conceded a late goal against Espanyol. The two sides looked set to play out a goalless draw until Natalia Montilla scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner. The 26-year-old came off the bench to curl a low shot into the far corner. The win extends Espanyol’s unbeaten run to five matches.
